Tecnica Zero G Guide Pro Review

Tecnica Zero G Guide Pro

After years of skiing in 130 flex low volume alpine race boots I’ve never been of fan of alpine touring touring boots. Most touring boots I’ve tried have been too wide, too soft, and lack the performance and responsiveness for skiing steep technical lines, until now. The Tecnica Zero G Guide Pro is the first lightweight tech binding compatible touring boot I’ve found that skis almost like a true alpine boot.

Weighing in at just 1540 grams per boot, the Guide Pro is almost as light as most other touring boots on the market, but features 4 buckles, a 130 flex, and 99mm last with replaceable rubber soles. Despite its lightweight, the Guide Pro has a stiff responsive flex that skis almost as well as alpine race boot on the downhill. The walk mode features a 44 degree range of motion for hiking and skinning comfort.

I’ve used the Guide Pro in a variety of conditions and tours ranging from one hour boots packs to 3 hour skinning tours, skiing down everything from light powder to breakable sun crust in open bowls to narrow couloirs. The Guide Pro performed in all conditions, and on several runs I entirely forgot that I was skiing in a touring boot, which has never happened before. The Guide Pro is an awesome boot for any expert level skier looking for a light weight high performance boot for the backcountry.
